IFAF World Championship

The IFAF World Cup, officially American Football World Cup, IFAF World Cup or World Championship IFAF is a all four quadrennial American football tournament between national teams. It is organized by IFAF, the World Federation of American Football.

History

The IFAF World Cup takes place every four years since 1999. To Italy (1999) and Germany (2003) Japan in 2007 was the third organizer of the World Cup. After the World Cup 2011 in Austria is the 2015 World Championships in Sweden for the fourth time in Europe instead.

I. 1999 World Cup in Italy

Between 24 June and 4 July, the final round of the first Football World Cup in Palermo, Italy took place.

Qualifies were the national teams from Italy, Australia, Finland, Japan, Mexico and Sweden.

The game was initially into two groups. Then the placement matches and the final took place. In the match for fifth place Australia won 10:7 against Finland. Sweden was a 38:13 against Italy third. In the final game, Japan was able to prevail with a 6-0 over Mexico in extra time.

II 2003 World Cup in Germany

The final round of the second American Football World Cup was held from July 10 to 12 in Hanau and Wiesbaden, Germany.

Qualifies were the national teams from Germany, Japan, France and Mexico.

The semi-finals were held in the stadium at the Berlin street in Wiesbaden on July 10. Japan defeated France with 23:6 and Mexico won against Germany 21:17.

The finals were aligned on July 12 at the Herbert - Dröse Stadium in Hanau. In the match for third place, the German national team won 36:7 against France. In the final game, Japan was able to prevail with a 34:14 against Mexico and were for the second time world champion.

III. World Cup 2007 in Japan

The Third World Championship was held from July 7 to 15 in Kawasaki, Japan. It was played at Todoroki Stadium in Kawasaki Stadium as well.

Qualification

At the final round of the World Cup 2007 was attended by six nations.

Qualified automatically as hosts were Japan, Sweden as European champions and the United States of America as the only candidate Pan - America.

Two other representatives came from Europe: Germany qualified by a 68:7 against Denmark to participate in Japan. France qualified by a 25:6 against Finland, which prevailed before with a 42:0 against Russia.

The last participant was determined between Korea and Australia. Korea won 22:13.

Competition mode

Played as early as 1999, that is, in the group stage, two groups were formed à three teams. Within these groups, everyone plays against everyone. After the group stage, each equal -ranked teams played for the first ( group winner), third ( second ) and fifth (third ) place. The group divisions and games were as follows:

IV World Championship 2011 in Austria

Venues of the American Football World Cup 2011, Graz and Innsbruck for the group games as well as Vienna for the finals. Participants were:

  • Group A: USA, Mexico, Germany, Australia
  • Group B: Austria, Canada, France, Japan

The finals took place at Vienna's Ernst -Happel-Stadion on July 16. It won the USA vs. Canada, and Japan against Mexico in the match for 3rd place best European team was again Germany, as a fifth ahead of France and Austria. The last place went to Australia.
