Ifinger

The Ifinger (Italian Picco Ivigna ) is a 2581 m slm high mountain in the Alps in South Tyrol Sarntaler (Italy).

Location

The mountain of granite, called Ifinger - tonalite, constructed is the southernmost striking elevation in the western ridge of the Alps Sarntaler before it slopes down to the broad back of the Tschögglberg. Its main peak, the Great Ifinger, reaches a height of 2581 m. In the immediate vicinity, only a few meters to the southeast, the separated by a notch Small Ifinger is ( 2552 m). Of these two peaks from run multiple combs in different directions. On the crest leading to the north- west is the disc Spitz ( 2412 m). The southwest ridge first drops off to Ifinger Forcella ( 2117 m) and then rises to Lauwand ( 2255 m). The running first to the east and later to the northeast ridge drops to Oswaldscharte ( 2323 m ) and connects the Ifinger with the Verdinser plate top ( 2681 m).

Administratively the mountain is located on the territory of the municipalities and Scena Hafling South Tyrol.

Alpinism

The Ifinger extends to free north-east of Meran and the Burggrafenamt and is a major tour destination. The normal route takes in the Little Ifinger developed by cableways Merano 2000 ski area on the southern flank of the mountain its beginning and first heads to the northeast to Oswaldscharte. From there, a path leads to the burr profile westwards following the lesser of two Ifinger Summit. To further access to the Great Ifinger, you have to descend between the peaks and the last 50 meters of altitude set by a short, secured climbing first into the small crevice. The north wall of the Ifingers is popular with climbers.

The Lauwand and Ifinger Forcella are accessible by hiking trails. The nearest shelters are the Ifingerhütte on the western flank and Merano hut in the southeast.
