Iggingen

Iggingen is a municipality in Baden -Württemberg and is part of the Ostalb. The municipality has both the region of East Württemberg, as well as for marginal zone of the metropolitan region of Stuttgart.

Geography

Geographical location

Iggingen is located on a ridge between the rivers Rems and flax located about 10 km from Schwäbisch Gmünd.

Neighboring communities

The municipality is bordered to the north by Täferrot, Leinzell and Goeggingen, to the east by Heuchlingen and Böbingen an der Rems, and to the south and west by the city of Schwäbisch Gmünd.

Community structure

The municipality includes the village Iggingen Iggingen, the hamlet Brainkofen and Schönhardt and the domestic sheep Häusle and dialed villages Airlighofen and precious hamlet.

History

In the district Brainkofen a hand ax was found, whose age was determined to be about 100,000 years. Also ice age hunters have left in the period 18000-4000 BC tracks, as well as the Celts.

Iggingen was first mentioned in 855, first documented under the name Ucchinga in the Lorsch Codex. The spelling Uggingen is known from the year 1274. From 1275 to the early 16th century led the men of the village Iggingen. The family of the lords of Iggingen died out after Junker Hans had died to Uckingen because his descendants were no longer considered as noble. Iggingen fell in Schwäbisch Gmünd and was first Reichsdorf. The place belonged to the district of Schwäbisch Gmünd and went through the district reform in 1973 with this in Ostalb on.

Religions

Iggingen is mainly dominated Roman Catholic. The only church in the village is the St. Martin's Church, the few evangelical believers are spiritually fed by the congregation Täferrot from.
