Ignace Heinrich

Ignace Heinrich ( born July 31, 1925 in Ebersheim, Bas- Rhin, † January 9, 2003 in Carnoux -en- Provence, Bouches -du- Rhône) was a French athlete. At a height of 1.93 m his competition weight was 92 kg.

After the Alsatian farmer's son had deserted from the German army, he was initially in Soviet captivity. In the summer of 1945, he was allowed to return to his homeland.

In 1947 he completed his first decathlon for Racing Strasbourg and reached 6300 points. At the Olympic Games in London in 1948 he won with 6974 points behind the Silver American Bob Mathias. 1950 at the European Championships in Brussels Heinrich won with 7364 points ahead of the Icelanders Örn Clausen with 7297 points. At the Olympic Games in Helsinki in 1952, he gave up after the sixth discipline.

Ignace Heinrich in 1947, 1948, 1949 and 1952 French champion in the decathlon. He also won league titles in the long jump in 1949 in the 110- meter hurdles in 1952 and in the pole vault in 1952. He started 26 times in the French national team, where he was employed except in the decathlon in seven other disciplines.

His fifth and last French record he achieved in 1951 with 7476 points corresponding to 6934 points after today's table.
