Ignace Strasfogel

Ignace Strasfogel ( born July 17, 1909 in Warsaw, † February 6, 1994 in New York) was a Polish composer and conductor.

Biography

Strasfogel lived since 1912 in Berlin and studied composition with Franz Schreker. He won in 1926 the Mendelssohn Prize for his Piano Sonata No. 2. In January 1934 he was forced to emigrate and worked as a pianist and conductor in the United States (Metropolitan Opera). Only after a 35-year break composition ( 1948-1983 ), he wrote other works for piano, chamber music and songs.
