Ignacio Andrade

Ignacio Andrade Troconis ( born July 31, 1839 in Mérida, † February 17, 1925 in Macuto ) was an army officer and politician, and from February 20 1898-19. October 1899 President of Venezuela. His election to the presidency was exposed to the suspicion of fraud against him and there was a variety of conspiracies and resistance movements.

Early years and career

His parents were of General José Andrade Escolastico and Juana Troconis.

After his military training he was from 1883-1885 President of the State of Falcón and 1886 the Senator. After a brief stint as governor of the Distrito Federal ( the state of Caracas ), he was Minister of Education in 1893. As a member and later president of Miranda he was nominated for the presidential election of 1897 as a government candidate.

Presidency

In the secret direct dial from 1 September he won with big lead against José Manuel Hernández; however, this is considered fraud. The then prevailing tensions led to the " Revolución de Queipa " an uprising led by Hernández with fights of 23 February - 12th Juni 1898.

During this rebellion, former president and supporters Andrades Joaquín Crespo died ( in a battle against Hernández ), causing many caudillos directed against the president ( including the War Minister Ramón Guerra, who had just taken captive José Manuel Hernández ).

In addition to these riots, the government had to contend with economic problems and a smallpox epidemic, so that Andrade was overthrown on 19 October 1899 by Cipriano Castro ( in the so-called " Revolución Restorative Dora ").

Last years

Andrade was expelled from the country and settled in Puerto Rico. 1903 return, he was allowed into the country and he served the regime of Juan Vicente Gómez (who had overthrown him as a participant of the Revolución Restorative Dora ) and outer ( 1916-1917 ) and Minister of the Interior ( 1917-1922 ).

On February 17, 1925, he died in Macuto (Distrito Federal).
