Ignacio Pinazo Camarlench

Ignacio Pinazo Camarlench (also Ignacio Pinazo y Camarlench ) ( born January 11, 1849 in Valencia, † October 18, 1916 in Godella ) was a Spanish painter and graphic artist of impressionism.

Life

Hailing from a humble background Ignacio Pinazo was already since early childhood forced into different occupations contribute to the maintenance of the family. He only went to school until the eighth year of life, when his mother died of cholera. He has worked in such diverse occupations such as bakers, gilders, silversmith, tile painter and as a decorator for subjects. After his father's death he lived with his grandfather and began his art studies in 1864 at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Carlos de Valencia. His living he earned during this period as a salesman in a hat shop. In 1871 he presented for the first time from plants in the Exposicià Nacional de Bellas Artes (National Fine Arts Exhibition ). In 1873 he played from its own resources, a seven-month trip to Italy. With a scholarship in 1876, he returned to Italy and settled in Rome until 1881. From closed with Teresa Martinez Montfort married the sons Ignacio and José emerged who were themselves active as a painter later.

Due to a recent cholera epidemic in Valencia Pinazo 1884 was provisionally estimated by Bétera, where he was staying in a country house Villa María José Jaumandreu the banker. From 1884 to 1886 Pinazo taught color theory at the Escuela de Valencia. He received numerous commissions for the decoration of palaces of the nobility in his hometown. Its customers included the Marquesa de Benicarlo. At the annual Madrid art exhibitions Pinazo received in 1881 and 1885, a silver medal and 1897 and 1899 a gold medal. 1896 Pinazo member of the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Carlos de Valencia and 1903 member of the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid. He was awarded a Royal Medal in his own lifetime and named the city of Valencia in 1912 a road to Pinazo.

Ignacio Pinazo worked both with dark colors like black, brown and earth tones, as well as with the typical Impressionism bright palette. In his works is often a quick brush stroke to detect. After his return to his hometown of Valencia Pinazo turned away from of then-popular history painting to turn to the art of portraiture, genre scenes and landscapes. Here he became a model for Joaquín Sorolla and Francisco Domingo. Works by Pinazo example, are located in the Basílica de la Asunción of Cieza and the Museo de Bellas Artes de Valencia. The largest collection of works Pinazos is located in the Valencian Institute of Modern Art in Valencia. This includes more than 100 paintings and over 600 drawings, some of which date from the estate of the family.
