Ignacio Warnes

José Ignacio García de Zúñiga y Warnes (* 1772 in Buenos Aires, † November 21, 1816 in El Pari) was an Argentine military officer who fought in the Latin American War of Independence. He met his death at the Battle of El Pari against Colonel Francisco Javier Aguilera.

José Ignacio Warnes was the son of the mayor of Buenos Aires, Manuel Antonio Warnes y Durango y de Ana Jacoba García de Zúñiga y Lizola. His sister Manuela was married to José Joaquín Prieto Vial, President of the Republic of Chile from 1831 to 1841.

He now wears in honor of the province Ignacio Warnes Bolivia in his name, as well as the capital of this province, Warnes.
