Ignát Herrmann

Ignát Herrmann ( born August 12, 1854 in Chotieborsch; † July 8, 1935 in Řevnice ) was Czech writer, humorist and editor who also used the pseudonym Vojta Machatý, Švanda.

Life

As a thirteenth child of a lawyer writer he attended school in Hradec Králové, went in 1868 to Prague apprenticed as a merchant. He worked in some places, such as in 1873 in the Otto -Verlag. From 1876 to 1878 he edited the satirical magazine " Paleček " and held a multi-year job at a law firm until he was editor of the 1885 National Sheets ( Národní listy ), first as administrator, since 1885 as an editorial member. Since 1888 he was chairman of the club Soon ( Maj ). In addition, he founded the magazine " Švanda dudák " who brought it under his editorial to 40 vintages.

Works

His literary work was closely connected with newspapers and magazines in which he dealt with typical personalities of the Prague life. He wrote serialized novels as pâte přes DeVaTe and Muz bez třináctky. In Národní listy, he published perhaps his most successful novel Otec Kondelík a ženich Vejvara and the second part of his novel tchan Kondelík a Zet Vejvara. Much of his works have been made ​​into successful films. His stories and novels reflect the world of the small Czech citizen.

In German language, his works appeared Allerlei animals and lights ( 1935) and Selected Stories (1908 ).
