Ignatius Michael III. Jarweh

Mar Ignatius Michael III Jarweh ibn Ni'matallah ( born January 3, 1730 in Aleppo, † September 4, 1800 ) was Syrian Orthodox Bishop of Aleppo and 22 January 1783 to September 4, 1800 to Patriarch of Antioch of the Syrian Catholic Church.

The Syriac Orthodox Bishop of Aleppo in 1782 put a Catholic profession of faith and was in 1784 elected as Patriarch of Antioch of the Syrians. After him three bishops had joined in Zafaran monastery, he received confirmation of his election by Rome. After a see is vacant since the death of Ignatius Pierre VI. Chaahbadine in February 1702 was Ignatius Michael III. Jarweh the first Syrian Catholic Patriarch of Antioch. The Orthodox side to chose its own patriarch, who immediately gained the recognition of the Ottoman sultan. The Catholic Patriarch fled to Baghdad and then to Lebanon, north of Beirut who he settled permanently in the monastery Charfe.

After his excommunication he plundered the library of the Syrian Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch in Zafaran monastery. All Syriac manuscripts, now in Charfe (Lebanon ) are located, are former holdings of the monastery Zafaran.
