Ignatius Peter VIII Abdalahad

His Beatitude Mar Ignatius Pierre VIII Abdel- Ahad, whose real name Grégoire Pierre Abdel- Ahad, ( born June 28, 1930 in Aleppo, Syria) is Archbishop Emeritus of Beirut and Patriarch emeritus of united with Rome Syrian Catholic Church of Antioch.

Life

Grégoire Pierre Abdel- Ahad received on 17 October 1954, the ordination.

Pope John Paul II appointed him in 1996 as Titular Bishop of Batnae dei Siri and appointed him as Auxiliary Bishop of Antioch and Patriarchalexarchen of Jerusalem. He received his episcopal consecration on June 21, 1997 Bishop Ignatius Antoine II Hayek, Patriarch of the Syrian Catholic Church of Antioch.

On 16 February 2001 he was appointed by the Syrian Catholic Synod of Bishops in Charfet ( Šarfeh ), Lebanon, succeeding SS Ignatius Moussa Daoud I. elected Patriarch. ( Had him so therefore confirmed ) After Pope John Paul II on 24 February 2001, the church community ( communio ecclesiaticae ) offered him, Abdel- Ahad was enthroned on the following day in the Cathedral of the Annunciation in Beirut. In February 2008, he resigned for reasons of age. His successor was elected in January 2009, Ignatius Joseph III. Younan.
