Ignazio La Russa

Ignazio La Russa ( born July 18, 1947 in Paternò, Catania Province) is an Italian politician of the party Fratelli d' Italia. In Silvio Berlusconi's fourth cabinet he was from May 2008 to November 2011 the Italian Minister of Defence.

Political career

Like his father, Senator Antonino La Russa, and Ignazio La Russa neo-fascist Movimento Sociale Italiano initially in the (MSI -DN) was active. His family is Sicilian origin, but lives in Milan. Before completing his studies in law at the University of Pavia La Russa has studied at a Swiss Academy in St. Gallen. Then he went after a successful career as a lawyer and represented, inter alia, the plaintiffs in the case against the murder of three people in Milan 1974/75 by the Red Brigades.

In 1985 he was selected for the MSI - DN in the Regional Council of Lombardy. He became a member of the Italian Chamber of Deputies in 1992; his mandate was confirmed in all subsequent elections ( 1994, 1996, 2001, 2006 and 2008). As part of the transformation and realignment of the MSI - DN in 1995 he was among the most important founding members of the National Alliance (AN).

After the election victory of Berlusconi's Popolo della Libertà collection list ( PdL ) in April 2008, Ignazio La Russa was appointed on 8 May 2008 on the defense minister of Italy. On 11 May 2008 he also took over as successor to Gianfranco Fini, the Office of the Chairman of the AT until its dissolution in March 2009. At the founding congress of the PdL La Russa was appointed on March 29, 2009 in the party leadership.

La Russa is married and has three sons.

For the Italian version of the animated series The Simpsons La Russa worked as a voice actor.

In Marco Bellocchio's film the monster pops on the front page! (1973; Italian: il mostro in prima pagina Sbatti ) La Russa appeared in the original recordings from a Milan rally of MSI on as a young orator.
