Igor Dolgachev

Igor Dolgachev (Russian Игорь Владимирович Долгачев, Igor Vladimirovich Dolgatschew; * 1944 ) is a Russian- American mathematician who deals with algebraic geometry.

Dolgachev studied at the Moscow State University, where he graduated in 1966 made and received his doctorate in 1970 with Igor Shafarevich. In 1977 he left the Soviet Union and was in 1978 at the University of Michigan, where he is a professor.

In algebraic geometry, it dealt with issues such as classical invariant theory and algebraic surfaces and different, partly inspired from string theory symmetries of algebraic varieties ( McKay correspondence, according to John McKay, mirror symmetry). According to him the Dolgachev area is named (1981).
