Igor Moiseyev

Igor Alexandrovich Moiseyev (Russian Игорь Александрович Моисеев, scientific transliteration Igor ' Aleksandrovich Moiseev; * 8.jul / January 21 1906greg in Kiev, .. † November 2, 2007 in Moscow) was a Russian ballet dancer and choreographer.

Life

Moiseyev was born as the son of a lawyer in Kiev the light of day. Just a few months after his birth the family moved to Paris, where Moiseyev was raised bilingual. Through his mother, who sewed for performances at the Théâtre du Châtelet costumes, he began early to care for drama and dance.

In 1914 the family returned to Russia. At first they settled in the Ukrainian Poltava to pull a year later to Moscow. There Moiseyev attended a high school, where he particularly of painting, poetry and physical education classes devoted himself. As a 12 -year-old, he enrolled at the Ballet Academy of Wera Mossolowa. This recognized his talent and gave him to school Alexander Gorsky at the Bolshoi Theatre on, which he completed in 1924.

Moiseyev was thus able to fulfill his childhood dream and join the Bolshoi Ballet. But he was not satisfied with the role of the dancer, which he held until 1939, but wanted to completely realize new ideas. He was ballet master in 1936 at the Bolshoi Theatre in 1937 and introduced its own folk dance formation together. His combination of folklore and theater became a gigantic success: Moiseyev created several hundred dances, the ensemble performs to this day all over the world. The first presentation was entitled dances of the peoples of the Soviet Union.
