Igor Stelnov

Igor Anatoljevich Stelnow (Russian Игорь Анатольевич Стельнов; born March 12, 1963 in Moscow, Russian SFSR, † 24 March 2009 in Moscow, Russia) was a Russian ice hockey player and coach.

Career

During his career, played the defender at HK CSKA Moscow. Only after the collapse of the Soviet Union, he moved each for a season to Sweden and Italy. Overall, he scored 20 goals in 409 games in the Soviet league. Early on, he was appointed to the team of the Soviet national ice hockey team. On August 21, 1981, he was in a game against Czechoslovakia for the first time for the Sbornaja on the ice. His international career was crowned with the gold medals at the Winter Olympic Games in 1984 and 1988. For the national team, he scored 13 goals in 153 internationals. On April 5, 1990 he played his last international match. In 1984, he was inducted into the "Russian Hockey Hall of Fame".

Most recently, he served as assistant coach to the Russian first division club HK MVD Balaschicha before he died after a long illness on March 24, 2009 at the age of 46 years.
