Iguerande

Iguerande is a commune in the French department of Saône- et- Loire of the Burgundy region. In 1007 the municipality of inhabitants ( 1 January 2011).

Location

Iguerande lies at an altitude of about 270 meters above sea level. inst on the east bank of the Loire in the ancient cultural landscape of the brionnais in the south of Burgundy. The place is located about 34 km ( driving distance ) south of Paray -le- Monial and about 22 kilometers north of Roanne. The places worth seeing Marcigny, Semur -en- brionnais, Saint -Julien -de- Jonzy and Charlieu are all located within a radius of about 10-15 km.

Economy

The hilly region of Iguerande has always been dominated by agriculture, with the run up to the 19th century, viticulture after the phylloxera crisis was abandoned entirely. Today, cattle ( Charolais cattle ) plays a greater role. The place itself functioned until the early 20th century as a craft, trade and service center for several hamlets and isolated farmsteads in the area.

History

The history of the site and its surroundings stretches back: When working on the railway in 1880 Palaeolithic flint finds, as well as a polished ax of green porphyry were discovered from the Neolithic period. In Celtic times here, the border between the settlement area of ​​the Aedui and the Segusiavi. Already in a document of the 10th century a church is mentioned.
