Ihosy

Province

Ihosy is a city in the south of Madagascar. It is located 616 km from the capital Antananarivo.

The town is the capital of Ihorombe region and is situated in the province of Fianarantsoa. It lies in a plateau at an altitude of 700 m.

The city's population grew from 1993 11.951 on today around 17,000 inhabitants. The most important economic sector is livestock.

East of the town there is a small airport with connections to Fianarantsoa and Toliara. In the city the National Road 7 meeting (west of Toliara, north of Fianarantsoa coming ), the National Road 13 (of Tolagnaro about Isoanala Coming ) and the National Road 27 from Farafangana coming together.

The city was founded in 1848 by the Merina, but is located in the settlement area of ​​Bara (Madagascar).
