Ihringen is a municipality in the district of Breisgau in the Black Forest in the southwest of Baden -Württemberg.

Geography

The community is located west of Freiburg im Breisgau, on the southern slope of the Emperor chair. She is known as the wine-growing. In direct, geographical around Ihringen we find the highest elevation of the emperor chair, the skull and crossbones.

Neighboring communities

Ihringen borders in the north on the town Vogt castle, on the northeast by Bötzingen, to the east by God Home, on the southeast by Merdingen and in the south and west by the town of Breisach am Rhein. All neighboring communities include the district of Breisgau in the Black Forest.

Community structure

The municipality consists of the villages Ihringen and Wasenweiler. The districts are spatially identical with the municipalities of the same name before the Baden-Württemberg district reform in the 1970s. The official designation of the districts is done by preceding the name of the community and connected with a hyphen adjusted the name of each hamlet. The two districts also form the residential areas residential district Ihringen (or residential district I) and residential district Wasenweiler (or residential district II ) according to the Baden-Württemberg municipal code. History

Ihringen 962 was first mentioned as Uringa documented. About the Margraviate of Baden -Durlach it came to the Grand Duchy of Baden. Wasenweiler was first mentioned in 1000 AD as Uuasenuuilara documented. Religions

While Ihringen is dominated Protestant since the Reformation, the district Wasenweiler was always Roman Catholic. That is why each case to find an appropriate church in the two districts. In Ihringen is the Protestant church, rebuilt in 1874. Wasenweiler located on the mountain in the Catholic Church of the Assumption, built in 1823 by the architect Christoph Arnold in the style of Friedrich Weinbrenner. In Ihringen there was until 1938 a Jewish community. In 1925 it belonged to 125 people, 3.7% of the total population. Center for the community was a 1864 finished synagogue, which replaced a previous building. As elsewhere, this building was destroyed during Kristallnacht arson. The name of the synagogue square recalls. The village was also a cemetery, consisting west of Ihringen even today. It was founded in 1990 and again in 2007 greatly defiled. Coat of arms

The coat of arms of Wasenweiler shows corresponding elements: the black paws cross on a silver background refers to the centuries of local rule of the Teutonic Order. In the small heart-shaped shield has a blue grape on the green style out on a golden background on the long winemaking tradition.

Economy

A central role in the wine-growing town plays the distribution of the wine, so also each have their own wine cooperative place in two districts except the numerous wineries: the Kaiserstühler Winegrowers Ihringen eG and the Wasenweiler Winzer eG. The Wasenweiler Winzer eG was founded in 1935, is an association of some 200 wineries families with 70 hectares of vineyards. Main grape variety is Pinot Noir.

The town hall of the municipality with the Residents' Registration Office, Registry Office, Commercial register and Tourist Information is located in Ihringen at Brook Street. The territory of the municipality Ihringen belongs to the district of the district court Breisach.

Education

With the nine Linde school there in Ihringen a primary and secondary school. In the district Wasenweiler exists with the Mambergschule a pure elementary school. A memorial stone near the former site of the synagogue Bachstraße 15/17 recalls the the pogrom of November 1938 by SA men destroyed Jewish house of worship.

Music

There are a number of orchestras, the fanfare heralds Kaiserstühler Ihringen, the Musikverein Ihringen, the brass band of the Ev. Community and in the district Wasenweiler the winemakers chapel. Structures

The evangelical church is probably the most visited monument Ihringens. The ornate stained glass windows are worth a visit. Many visitors feel reminiscent of Marc Chagall. Ihringer wine days

Every summer, always on the weekend following Corpus Christi, the Ihringer Wine Days will take place.
