Ihsan Ali Al-Shehbaz

Ihsan Ali Al- Shehbaz (* 1939) is an American botanist irakischstämmiger. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Al- Shehbaz ."

Life and work

Al- Shehbaz graduated from Baghdad University with a BS in 1962 and had continued to work at the college from 1963 to 1966. He then moved to Harvard University, where he graduated with the MS in Biology in 1969 and received his doctorate in 1973. 1973 to 1977 he was assistant professor and director of the herbarium at the University of Baghdad. He held from 1978 to 1981 at the University of Sulaimaniya The same position. He then moved to Harvard University affiliated Arnold Arboretum, where he was a research assistant from 1985 to 1990.

1990 to 1996 he was deputy curator of the Missouri Botanical Garden. 1996 to 2001 he was curator there, since he is "Senior Curator". Since October 2001 he has directed the Department of Asian Botany at the Missouri Botanical Garden. From 1995 to 2001 he was director of the Flora of China project.

He is a member of the International Association for Plant Taxonomy and the American Society of Plant Taxonomists since 1983. One focus of his research is the plant family of cruciferous plants ( Brassicaceae).

Al- Shehbaz is married and has two sons.
