IIHF Continental Cup 1998

The IIHF Continental Cup 1997 was the first edition of the discharged by the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF competition. The final round was played in Tampere, Finland from 26 to 28 December 1997.

A final round participants was set, the host club Ilves Tampere. The three other finalists were determined in three qualifying rounds.

First round

The matches of the first round were held between 19 and 21 September 1997, five venues. The five tournament winner qualified for the second round.

Group A

The games in Group A took place in the Hungarian Székesfehérvár. Here sat the host team, Alba Volán Székesfehérvár, through with two wins.

Group B

The matches of Group B were held in Jesenice, Slovenia. The winner of the tournament was the Polish club KS Unia Oświęcim with two wins.

Group C

The matches of group C were in Belgrade, the capital of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, discharged. Winner of the tournament was the Hungarian representative, Dunaferr Dunaújváros, with two wins.

Group D

The Group D games were held in Riga, Latvia. Here, the host of Juniors Riga continued with two wins and a draw through on goal difference over Tiwali Minsk.

Group E

The games in Group E were held in Miercurea Ciuc Romania. The host club, SC Miercurea Ciuc of, sat down with three wins clear against competition from Jerusalem by.

Second Round

The matches of the second round were played between the 10th and 12th October 1997 six venues.

Group F

The games in Group F were held in Herning, Denmark. Winner of the tournament was Vålerenga IF Oslo, Norway with two wins and a draw.

Group G

The matches of the group G took place in the Dutch Nijmegen. Here, the Trondheim Black Panthers prevailed with two wins and a draw.

Group H

The games in Group H were held in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Here, the Klagenfurt EC prevailed with two wins and a draw.

Group J

The games in Group J were held in Nowy Targ. In this case, could the host club, Podhale Nowy Targ, enforce clear with three wins and reached the semi-finals.

Group K

The tournament in Group K, which was held in Tartu, Estonia, won the Latvian representative, the Juniors Riga, with two wins and a draw.

Group L

The games in Group L were held in the Russian Magnitogorsk. Here, the host HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk prevailed with two wins and reached the semi-finals.

Semifinal

The games of the semifinal held from 14 to 16 November 1997 addressed to three venues. The winners of each group moved into the finals.

Group M

Final

The final tournament of the IIHF Continental Cup was held from December 28, 1997 in Tampere, Finland on 26. With two wins and a draw, the Slovakian first division TJ VSZ Kosice stood out against the competition and was the first winner of the Continental Cup.
