IIHF Continental Cup 2004

The IIHF Continental Cup 2003 /04 was the seventh staging of the material discharged by the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF competition. The final round, called the Super Final was held in January 2004 in Belarus Gomel.

Four finalists were set. The other two participants in the Super Final was determined in three qualifying rounds.

First round

The games of the first qualifying round were held from 26 to September 28, 2003 in five venues.

Group A

The matches of Group A were held in the Serbian city of Novi Sad. The KHL Zagreb prevailed with three wins and reached the second round.

Group B

The matches of Group B were held in the French Amiens. The Gothiques d' Amiens qualified with three wins for the second round.

Group C

The Group C matches were held in Barcelona, ​​Spain. The Tigers boretti Amsterdam reached three clear victories against their competitors and thus qualified for the second round of the competition.

Group D

The Group D games were held in Zagreb, Croatia. Dunaferr SE Dunaújváros from Hungary went with three wins out of this tournament, reaching the second qualifying round.

Group E

The games in Group E were held in Riga, Latvia. Venue was the 1,000 -seat Siemens Ledus hall. Here, the host HK Riga 2000 prevailed with two wins and a draw, reaching the second round.

Second Round

The matches of the second round were held between the 17th and 19th October 2003 four venues.

Group F

The tournament Group F was held in the Polish city Oswiecim. A center Hala Lodowa Oświęcim served. The Games of KHL Zagreb were canceled because the squad did not belong to enough players. The host club, Dwory S.S.A. Unia Oświęcim, reaching a win and a draw and thus qualified for the semifinals.

Group G

Group H

The tournament of the group I was discharged in Zvolen Slovak. Here, all games were played in Zimný Štadión Zvolen. The tournament was won by the Finnish second division Jukurit Mikkeli with two wins and a draw. This drew Jukurit into the semi-finals of the competition.

Semifinal

The Games of the two semi-final tournaments were held from 21 to 23 November 2003.

Group J

The games in Group J were held from 21 to 23 November 2003 at Herning, Denmark. In the deciding game to win the group, the Dragons de Rouen sat with 7:3 against Dwory SSA Unia Oświęcim by qualified and thus for the Super Final.

Group K

The games in Group K were held in Linz indoor ice rink from 21 to 23 November 2003. In the deciding game to win the group, the HK Keramin Minsk sat 3-1 with against the host EHC Black Wings Linz and qualified for the Super Final.

A total of 7,100 spectators attended the six tournament games.

Super Final

The games of the Super Final was played between 8 and 11 January 2004 Belarusian Homel. For the tournament the HK Gomel, the HC Lugano, Severstal Cherepovets and HC Slovan Bratislava were in addition to the host team set. The three previous rounds also had the Dragons de Rouen and the HK Keramin Minsk qualified. The venue was the Ice Palace Gomel, which can accommodate 2,750 spectators and was sold out in all parts of the preliminary round.

The game for fifth place was clearly dominated by the HK Keramin Minsk, who defeated the Dragons de Rouen 5-0. Enger was the third-place match: after 79 seconds achieved Patrick Sutter 1-0 for HC Lugano. This was followed by 60 minutes of no goals, before tying the score at 57 minutes, Yuri Trubatschow to 1:1 Severstal Cherepovets for. So the game went into overtime. After 67 minutes, Ryan Gardner was able to assist by Mike Maneluk achieve the game-winning 2:1 and thus the HC Lugano secure third place.

The final between the HK Gomel and HC Slovan Bratislava was only in the last third really exciting: After 41 minutes of game Slovan led through goals from Petr Pavlas, Slavomír Pavličko, Tibor Višňovský and René Školiak already 5-0 before the Belarusian team by two quick goals to 5:2 shortened. The third goal from Petr Pavlas in the 48th minute, thus achieving a hat-trick secured the win for Bratislava and thus winning the IIHF Continental Cup. As best player in the final game of Slovan goalkeeper Pavol Rybár and Wital Waluj were elected by HK Gomel.
