IIHF Continental Cup 2007

The IIHF Continental Cup 2006/ 07 was the tenth edition of the discharged by the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF competition. On September 22, 2006 to January 7, 2007 discharged participated in this tournament 19 teams from 19 countries. The final round was held from 5 to 7 January 2007 at the Hungarian Székesfehérvár.

Three final round participants were set, the host Alba Volán Székesfehérvár and Ilves Tampere of Finland and the HK Avangard Omsk of Russia, representing the highest ranked countries according to the IIHF World Ranking 2006, which was reported for the tournament. The other finalists were determined in three qualifying rounds.

Qualification

First round

The matches of the first round took place by 24 September 2006 of 22. As a venue for group A served the Romanian capital Bucharest and Belgrade the games of Group B were discharged. However, of the eight teams entered could not take two, which were then replaced by playing non-competitive teams. Group A

Group B

In addition, the Belgian representative Turnhout White Caps said from his participation. As a substitute local rivals Partizan HK Red Star Belgrade jumped whose games were also not counted.

Thus, the next round in Group B developed into a farce, as faced in the only relevant game of the weekend Partizan Belgrade and Ankara. This completely uneven match with Partizan won 20:0.

Second Round

The second round of the Continental Cup was played in three groups from 13 to 15 October 2006. The Group C matches took place in Rouen, France, the games in Group D in the Polish cities of Krakow and Oświęcim and the matches in Group E in the Lithuanian Elektrėnai.

The winner of Group A, CSA Steaua Bucharest, qualified to participate in Group D, while the HK Partizan Belgrade took part in the hosting of the group E.

Group C

The played in Rouen Group C saw the EC Red Bull Salzburg reach the third round. Group D

The Super Final was held from January 7, 2007 in Hungary Székesfehérvár of 5. Behind the Omsk placed on the second place, while Ilves Tampere and Alba Volán Székesfehérvár occupied the third and fourth position.
