IIHF Continental Cup 2011

The IIHF Continental Cup 2010/11 was the 14th edition of the discharged by the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF competition. The tournament was held from September 24, 2010 to January 16, 2011. A total of 19 teams from 19 nations took part in the competition.

Two final round participants were set, the host HK Junost Minsk and the defending champions EC Red Bull Salzburg of Austria, representing the highest ranked countries according to the IIHF leagues Rankings 2010 who had registered for the tournament. The other two finalists were determined in three qualifying rounds.

Qualification

First round

The matches of the first round took place until 26 September 2010 at the Spanish Jaca of 24. The SC Energia Elektrėnai could not participate in the tournament due to problems with the journey.

Group A

In group A, which was played due to the cancellation of the Lithuanian club SC Energia Elektrėnai due to problems with the arrival of only three teams, the reigning Spanish champion CH Jaca and hosts prevailed. The Iberians were victorious sovereign against both the HC Bat Yam in Israel and in the final group game against Ankara Üniversitesi SK from Turkey. The Turks secured the second place.

Second Round

The second round of the Continental Cup was played in two groups of 22 to 24 October 2010. The venues were Tilburg in the Netherlands and Maribor in Slovenia. The winner of Group A, CH Jaca, qualified to participate in group B.

Third Round

The third round of the Continental Cup was held from November 28, 2010 26. It was played in two groups in Rouen, France, and Italian Asiago. The winner of Group B, KS Cracovia Krakow, qualified to participate in Group D, while the winner of Group C, the HSC Csíkszereda, the ticket to participate in the group E solved.

Super Final

The Super Final of the Continental Cup was held from January 16, 2011 from 14. The venue of the tournament was the Belarusian capital, Minsk. In addition to the set of representatives from Belarus and Austria, the host of HK Junost Minsk and the defending champions EC Red Bull Salzburg, secured in the final qualifying round of the Dragons de Rouen in France, as the winners of Group D, and Sønderjysk Elite Sports Vojens from Denmark, as winners of Group e, the remaining two seats.

Already on Matchday went out of their favorites - the host of Minsk and the defending champion from Salzburg - no nakedness and won their opening games. Minsk struggled with the narrow 2-1 against Sønderjysk Elite Sports Vojens but more than Salzburg against the Dragons de Rouen. A similar picture was also in the following round. Both Salzburg and Minsk were victorious in their games and so the final game of the competition with the win had to decide. Prior to Sønderjysk Elite Sports has secured by a 3-2 victory over Rouen third. It was the best performance by a Danish team in the Continental Cup. In the final game of the hosts got off to the better start and were nearing the end of the third 3-0 start in front. While the Austrians were able to reduce even before the intermission, a goal of the White Russians in the second period put the old distance but restores. The race to catch up to the Defender in the final section was unsuccessful and so Junost Minsk was the second time since 2007, celebrate winning the Continental Cup.

The six games in the 15,000 -seat Minsk Arena visited a total of 43,410 spectators. The final match between HK Junost Minsk and EC Red Bull Salzburg was with 14,550 spectators almost sold out.

Player Trophies

The awards at the final tournament were goalkeeper Mika Oksa from the tournament winner HK Junost Minsk, the Canadian defender Dustin Van Ballegooie in the service of Sønderjysk Elite Sports Vojens and the Canadian striker Ryan Duncan from Austrian club EC Red Bull Salzburg.

The crown of the Topscorers and top scorers secured Ryan Duncan from the EC Red Bull Salzburg. His three goals and six points were not on offer in the two classifications. The Frenchman Julien Desrosiers of the Dragons de Rouen secured with four assists the title of best original encoder. The best fishing quota among the goalkeepers had before Alfie Michaud of Sønderjysk Elite Sports Vojens, who saved 91.86 percent of the shots on his goal.

All- Star team

In the first winning All- Star team the final tournament, players were from all four participants again. On the goalkeeper position was nominated Mika Oksa from HK Junost Minsk. Prior to his teammate Aljaksej Baranau and Dustin Van Ballegooie of Sønderjysk Elite Sports Vojens occupied the defenders positions. In the storm joined Carl Mallette of the Dragons de Rouen at the two Salzburg Ryan Duncan and Ramzi Abid.
