IIHF Continental Cup 2012

The IIHF Continental Cup 2011/12 was the 15th edition of the discharged by the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF competition. The tournament was held from 30 September 2011 to 15 January 2012. A total of 18 teams from 18 nations took part in the competition, including for the first time since hosting the 2008/ 09 again a team from the so-called top -7 nations.

Two final round participants were set, the host Dragons de Rouen and the defending HK Junost Minsk from Belarus, representing the highest ranked countries according to the IIHF leagues Rank List 2011 who have registered for the tournament - with the exception of Russia. The other two finalists were determined in three qualifying rounds.

Qualification

First round

The matches of the first round will take place from September 30 to October 2, 2011 in the Turkish capital Ankara instead. The first reported HC Metulla from Israel did not participate in the tournament.

Group A

Second Round

The second round of the Continental Cup was played in two groups of 21 to 23 October 2011. The venues were Dunaújváros Miercurea Ciuc in Hungary and in Romania. The winner of Group A, White Caps Turnhout in Belgium, qualified to participate in group B.

Third Round

The third round of the Continental Cup will take place between November 27, 2011 25. The game is played in two groups in Herning, Denmark and Ukraine Donetsk. The winner of Group B, Dunaújvárosi Jégkorong, qualified to participate in Group D, while the winner of Group C, HK Liepaja Metalurgs, the ticket to participate in the group E solved.

Super Final

The Super Final of the Continental Cup was held until January 15, 2012 from 13. The venue of the tournament was the French Rouen. In addition to the set of representatives from France and Belarus, the host Dragons de Rouen and the defending HK Junost Minsk, secured in the final qualifying round of the HC Asiago from Italy, as the winner of Group D, and the HK Donbass Donetsk from Ukraine, as winners of Group e, the remaining two seats.

The awards at the final tournament were goalkeeper Mika Oksa from HK Junost Minsk, the Russian defender Vladimir Malevich in the service of HK Donbass Donetsk and the French striker Marc -André Thinel from the tournament winner and host Dragons de Rouen.

The crown of the Topscorers and top scorers secured Carl Mallette of the Dragons de Rouen. His four goals and seven points were not on offer in the two classifications. His team-mate Julien Desrosiers secured with six assists the title of best template generator and reached just seven points. The best catch rates among goalkeepers pointed Fabrice Lhenry - also the tournament winner from Rouen before, who saved 94.50 percent of the shots on his goal.
