IIHF European Cup 1966

The Hockey European Cup in the 1965/66 season was the first start of the competition of the same name by the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF. The competition was held from October 23 1965 to 18 March 1966. A total of 14 teams from 14 nations took part. The first European Cup winner was the Czechoslovak team of TJ ZKL Brno, which prevailed in the final against the German representatives EV Füssen.

Mode and participants

The country masters of the Year 1964/65 of the European members of the IIHF were qualified for the competition. The tournament was played in knockout system with four games per round. In each case, two games were played at a club, after two games at the opponent. The one team that won more games, advanced to the next round. The EV Füssen and the TJ ZKL Brno received a bye for the first round.
