IIHF European Cup 1967

The Hockey European Cup in season 1966/67 was the second competition of the same name by the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF. The competition took place from the fall of 1966 until 4 April 1967. A total of 14 teams from 14 nations took part. The Czechoslovak champion TJ ZKL Brno was able to defend his title from last year after a final victory against the Finnish Masters Ilves Tampere.

Mode and participants

The country masters of the Year 1965/66 of the European members of the IIHF were qualified for the competition. The tournament was played in knockout system with four games per round. In each case, two games were played at a club, after two games at the opponent. Case of a tie after the fourth game the decision was made in the shootout. The one team that won more games, advanced to the next round. The defending champion TJ ZKL Brno and the Soviet champion HK CSKA Moscow were set for the semifinals, Moscow appeared there but not on. Four teams received a bye in the first round.

Semifinal

The defending champion TJ ZKL Brno and the master of the game strong Soviet League, CSKA Moscow were set for the semifinals. But Moscow did not occur, so that the second edition of the European Cup took place without Soviet participation. The second semifinal was discharged only half, the Klagenfurt AC did not occur to the away matches in Brno, as the Austrian national team at the same time playing a tournament in North America. The only two games of the semi finals took place on 2 and 3 February 1967.

Final

Tampere joined to the rear not playing in Brno.
