IIHF European Cup 1969

The Hockey European Cup in the 1968/69 season was the fourth edition of the competition of the same name by the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF. The competition began in October 1968; the finale was only in October 1969, during the 1969/70 season, discharged. A total of 16 teams participated from 15 countries. For the first time took the HK CSKA Moscow in part a Soviet representative, who also won the title after a final victory against the Klagenfurt AC.

Due to the suppression of the Prague Spring of the Czechoslovak defending TJ ZKL Brno HC Dukla Jihlava and renounced participation and were not in the semifinals and the second round. Officially scheduling problems were cited as a reason to not offend the Soviet Union. In solidarity, the Scandinavian teams Brynäs IF Gävle and Koo -Vee Tampere also renounced to participate.

Mode and participants

The country masters of the 1967 /68 European members of the IIHF and the defending champion TJ ZKL Brno were qualified for the competition.

The competition was held in the knockout system in return game. The defending Brno and the Soviet champion CSKA Moscow were there set for the semifinals.

The games took place on 2 and 9 December 1968. A Game 1 on December 20, 1968

Round 3

The games were held on 15 and 28 January 1969.

Semifinal

The defending champion TJ ZKL Brno and Soviet champion CSKA Moscow were set for the semifinals. The games were held on 6 and 8 April 1968.
