IIHF European Cup 1982

The Hockey European Cup in the 1981/82 season was the 17th edition of the competition of the same name by the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF. The competition began in October 1981; the final was played in August 1982. A total of 18 teams took part. The CSKA Moscow defended for the fourth time in a row the title.

Mode and participants

The country masters of the Year 1980/81 of the European members of the IIHF were qualified for the competition. The competition was held in the knockout system in return game. The final was played every - for-all in a four- in mode.

Tournament

First round

The matches of the first round were played on 14 and 28 October 1981. Twelve teams played the six qualifiers for the second round.

2nd round

The first round matches were played on 7 and 21 November 1981. The six winners of the first round and the two set of participants - Germany Federal Republic of Germany and SC Riessersee Democratic Republic in 1949 SG Dynamo White Water - played the four qualifiers for the third round.

Round 3

The matches of the third round were held on 5 December 1981 to January 3, 1982. The four winners of the second round and the top four seeds participants - Oulu Finland Kärpät, Sweden Färjestad BK Karlstad, Czechoslovakia TJ Vitkovice and the defending champion CSKA Moscow Soviet Union - played from the four qualifiers for the final tournament.

Final tournament

The final tournament was held from 25 to 29 August 1982 at the German Dusseldorf. The games were held comprehensive Ice Rink at the Brehmstraße in 10,285 viewers.
