IIHF European Cup 1983

The Hockey European Cup in the 1982/83 season was the 18th edition of the competition of the same name by the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF. The competition began in October 1982; the final was played in August 1983. A total of 16 teams took part. The CSKA Moscow defended for the fifth time in a row the title.

Mode and participants

The country masters of the Year 1981/82 of the European members of the IIHF were qualified for the competition. The competition was held in the knockout system in return game. The final was played every - for-all in a four- in mode.

Tournament

First round

The matches of the first round were played on 14 and 28 October 1982. Eight teams played the four qualifiers for the second round.

2nd round

The first round matches were played on 11 and 25 November 1982. The four winners of the first round and the top four seeds participants - Netherlands Feenstra Flyers Heerenveen, Yugoslavia Socialist Federal Republic HK Jesenice, Sweden AIK Stockholm and Italy HC Bolzano - played the four qualifiers for the third round.

Round 3

The matches of the third round were played on December 1982 and January 4, 1983 28. The four winners of the second round and the top four seeds participants - Finland Tappara Tampere, Federal Republic of Germany SB Rosenheim, Czechoslovakia Dukla Jihlava ASD and the defending champion CSKA Moscow Soviet Union - played from the four qualifiers for the final tournament.

Final tournament
