IIHF European Cup 1984

The Hockey European Cup in the 1983/84 season was the 19th edition of the competition of the same name by the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF. The competition began in October 1983; the final was played in August 1984. A total of 16 teams took part. The CSKA Moscow defended for the sixth time in a row the title.

Mode and participants

The national champion of the Game 1982/ 83 of the European members of the IIHF were qualified for the competition. The competition was held in the knockout system in return game. The final was played Free-for -All in a four- in mode.

Tournament

First round

The matches of the first round were held on 6 and 20 October 1983. Eight teams played the four qualifiers for the second round.

1 Found on October 5th place in 1983. Found in 2 instead of Debrecen. Found in 3 instead of Lyss.

2nd round

The first round matches were played on 10 and 24 November 1983. The four winners of the first round and the top four seeds participants - Austria VEU Feldkirch, Germany Democratic Republic in 1949 SC Dynamo Berlin, Stockholm Sweden Djurgårdens IF and HC Bolzano Italy - played the four qualifiers for the third round.

Round 3

The matches of the third round were played between December 3, 1983 and 19 January 1984. The four winners of the second round and the top four seeds participants - HIFK Helsinki Finland, Federal Republic of Germany EV Landshut, Czechoslovakia Dukla Jihlava ASD and the defending champion CSKA Moscow Soviet Union - played from the four qualifiers for the final tournament.

There was only one place a game in April 1984.

Final tournament

The final tournament was held in Val Gardena from 8 to 12 August 1984 at the Italian Ortisei. The games were held in 4,000 -seat ice rink Ortisei.
