IIHF European Cup 1993

The Hockey European Cup in the 1992 season was the 28th edition of the competition of the same name by the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF. The competition began in October 1992; the final was played in December 1992. A total of 25 teams took part. Malmo IF first won the title.

Mode and participants

The country masters of the Year 1991/92 of the European members of the IIHF were qualified for the competition. The competition was played with a preliminary round in five triple and a group of four in simple mode. Subsequently, the group winners and six pre-qualified teams played in three groups of four teams from the eight participants in the Final Tournament. In this the best teams of two triplets played cross from the courts.

Preliminary round

The preliminary round of the European Cup was played in five groups from 9 to 11 October 1992. The two group winners reached the final round.

Group A

The matches of Group A were held in Bulgaria in Sofia. The HK Red Star Belgrade was excluded from the competition because of a UN embargo against Yugoslavia.

Group B

The matches of Group B were held in Piešťany in Czechoslovakia.

Group C

The Group C matches were held in Herning, Denmark.

Group D

The Group D games were held in Villach, Austria.

Group E

The games in Group E were held in Blackburn, England.

Group F

The games in Group F were held in Oświęcim in Poland.

Semifinal

The semi-finals were held to 14 November 1992 by the 12th. The first two of each group and the two best third group were qualified for the final tournament.

Group G

The matches of the group G were held in Rouen in France.

Group H

The games in Group H were held in Italy in Milan.

Group J

The matches of the group J were held in Helsinki, Finland.

Final tournament

The final tournament was held in Dusseldorf and Duisburg from 26 to 30 December 1992.

The Swedish champions Malmo IF sat down in the final 4-3 in a penalty shootout against the Russian representatives HK Dynamo Moscow by.
