IIHF European Cup 1994

The Hockey European Cup in the 1993 season was the 29th edition of the competition of the same name by the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF. The competition began in October 1993; the final was played in December 1993. A total of 29 teams took part. TPS Turku won the title.

Mode and participants

The country masters of the Year 1992/93 of the European members of the IIHF were qualified for the competition. The competition was played with a preliminary round in groups in simple mode. Then played from the group winners and runners- places. In the quarter-final groups following teams had to qualify for the semifinals:

Quarterfinals

The preliminary round of the European Cup was played in five groups from 8 to 10 October 1993. The group winners and the four best runners-up, nine teams that reached the semi-finals. There they had to deal with seven seeded teams.

Group A

The matches of Group A were from 8 to 10 October 1993 in Esbjerg in Denmark.

Group B

The matches of Group B were held in Trenčín in Slovakia.

Group C

The Group C matches were played in Jesenice, Slovenia.

Group D

The Group D games were held in Riga in Latvia.

Group E

The games in Group E were held in Budapest in Hungary.

Semifinal

The semi-final was held from 12 to 14 November 1993. The four group winners and the two best runners-up, six teams reached the final round and came there on the defending champion and the host.

Group F

The games in Group F were held in Milan, Italy.

Group G

The matches of the group G were held in Rouen in France.

Group H

The games in Group H were held in Zurich in Switzerland.

Group I

The games in Group F were held in Turku in Finland.

Final tournament

The final tournament was held in Dusseldorf, Duisburg and Ratingen from 26 to 30 December 1993. The two group winners reached the final, the two runners-up played for the bronze medal.
