Iijima (Nagano)
Iijima ( Japanese:饭 岛 町, machi ) is a town in the south of kamiina -gun in Nagano Prefecture on the main Japanese island of Honshu.
Geography
Iijima is in the Ina basin between the Kiso Mountains and the Akaishi Mountains. The area is 86.94 km ². On 1 February 2010 10,154 people lived in Iijima. Adjacent municipalities are the cities ( shi) and Iida Komagane, the city Matsukawa ( Shimoina -gun ) and the villages mura Nakagawa ( kamiina -gun ) and Okuwa ( Kiso -gun ).
History
At the beginning of the Meiji period Iijima was the administrative seat of the short lived Ina Prefecture. As an administrative unit Iijima was established on 1 April 1889 as a village. On January 1, 1954 Iijima became a town. The last local government reform took place with the incorporation of the village Nanakubo on September 30, 1956.
Traffic
By Iijima the Iida Line of JR Central runs. In Iijima, there are a total of five stations ( Iijima, Ina- Hongō, Nanakubo, Tagiri and Takatōbara )
By Iijima national road 153 and the Chūō Expressway runs. The bus stop is located at Iijima latter for express buses.
Educational institutions
In Iijima, there are two primary schools and one middle school. All schools are administered by the city.
