Iizuna (Nagano)

Iizuna ( Japanese:饭 纲 町, machi ) is a town in Shinano -gun in the north of Nagano Prefecture on the main Japanese island of Honshu.

Geography

In Iizuna living on an area of ​​75.31 km ² municipality 11,956 people (as of 1 February 2010). Adjacent municipalities are the cities ( shi) and Nakano Nagano and the city of Shinano, which also belongs to Shinano -gun.

History

The city Iizuna was founded by merging the villages ( mura ) Mure and Samizu on 1 October 2005. It was named after lying in the municipality of the same mountain. On 16 July 2007, the Niigata Chuetsu - coast earthquake reached a strong 6 on the JMA scale in Iizuna.
