Ijon Tichy: Space Pilot is a German sci-fi satire television series by Randa Chahoud, Dennis Jacobsen and Oliver Jahn, based on a free adaptation of Stanislaw Lem's story collection The Star Diaries. The trio wrote the screenplays and directing, Jahn also plays the title character Ijon Tichy. The female lead is occupied by Hoku Ho.

The first season was the first time ever aired Monday against 23:55 clock on ZDF from March 26, 2007. Each episode was only a week previously provided online in the ZDFmediathek. The second season was broadcast in November and December 2011 ZDFneo and ZDF. By his own testimony, director Dennis Jacobsen wishes for the future to continue in the form of a movie.

Ijon Tichy, a kind of "space Munchausen ", flies in his homely "Three - space - rocket" through space. Always there is his self-built analog Halluzinelle, a female robot in appearance of a hologram. Together they live through bizarre adventures on other planets in cosmic swirls or in their own rocket. Accompanied by Tichy's narrative voice with an Eastern European accent, the audience is guided through a colorful, trashy world that is full of genre quotes and crazy ideas.

Characters

Ijon Tichy

Ijon Tichy is a space pilot, explorer and the self-proclaimed " Hero of the Cosmos ", the flies with his rocket without a clear mandate by the universe. He seems to have a certain amount of technical expertise, as he could construct the analog Halluzinelle. This is but for him to keep clean the interior of the rocket and do all the unpleasant jobs for him.

Tichy has a big ego and is very sure of himself and his " heroic deeds ". In addition, insists he often stubbornly on his mind and is usually reluctant to recognize the merits of others. Analog Halluzinelle

Professor Tarantoga

Professor Tarantoga is a scientist at the Institute of Cosmic encyclopedia and a gifted inventor. Mel

Mel is Tarantogas assistant and helps this in his inventions. But since he does not know to what species it belongs or from which planet he came from, he would like to travel the cosmos, to determine its origin. As Tichy lands to save the universe in Tarantoga, Mel therefore creeps as a stowaway on board Tichy rocket.

Production

The television series is based on themes and motifs from Stanisław Lem's Star Diaries and other works of this author to the main character Ijon Tichy. From this material developed Randa Chahoud, Dennis Jacobsen and Oliver Jahn, fellow students at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (dffb ), the two short films from the star diaries of Ijon Tichy (1999) and from the star diaries of Ijon Tichy II (2000 ). The first part won, among others, at the 1999 International Short Film Festival Hamburg the audience award. 2005 founded Chahoud, Jacobsen and Jahn the production company Cosmic colleagues. This project, realized in collaboration with Karsten Aurich of sabotage film as co- producer and the German Film and Television Academy Berlin ( dffb) the television series for ZDF.

In the series will find many retro items use, such as home appliances from the 1980s and 1990s. Tichy's rocket is a pressing plunger pot, which looks from the inside like a Berlin apartment; the aliens are designed quirky and full of character with deliberately simple means. The first season was filmed in Oliver Jahn's former apartment. As he moved between the two seasons and the former home has now been renovated, it was rebuilt for the filming of the second season faithfully in a studio. The special charm of the series is partly in the loving design of scenery, props and costumes.

Season 1

The first season consists of six episodes with a length of around 15 minutes. These were first aired by ZDF between 26 March and 7 May 2007.

Season 2

The second season consists of eight episodes with a length of around 25 minutes. The first broadcast took place on ZDFneo between the 4th and 25th November 2011.
