Iksan–Pohang Expressway

The Expressway 20 is a freeway in South Korea. The highway consists of two parts, which forms an east -west route through the south of the country. The western section runs between the Expressway 25 in Iksan and the Expressway 35 in Jangsu and the eastern part runs between Daegu and Pohang. Overall, the highway is 129 km long.

Street Description

Western Part

The highway begins between Iksan and Wanju / Jeonju at the intersection of the Expressway 25 The highway passes first through a large coastal plain, east of the mountains are located in Jeonju. In this area, steep, wooded slopes and peaks of up to 700 meters in height. The highway passes through some tunnels and viaducts. The most important place on the route is the city of Jinan. The rest of the route is very sparsely populated. A little further east, the mountains are higher, with a height of up to 1100 meters. Eastern Part

The eastern part begins at the airport of Daegu. Daegu is one of the largest cities in South Korea with 2.5 million inhabitants. Immediately after crossing the Airport Expressway 1, the axis of the southeastern port city of Busan to Seoul. The highway also passes through a mountainous area with many tunnels. Regularly river valleys are crossed, which are tributaries of the great Nakdonggang. The highway passes through Yeongcheon to Pohang, a coastal city with 500,000 inhabitants on the East Coast.

History

The Expressway 20 is a fairly new highway. The first section was opened in 2001 and that between Jangsu and the Expressway 35 On 15 December 2004 opened the eastern part between Daegu and Pohang. On 13 December 2007 the rest opened the western part between Iksan and Jangsu.

Traffic
