Ile des Cendres

BWf1

Ile des Cendres ( Vietnamese Hon Tro, international name of French île des Cendres " Ash Island" ) is a group of submarine volcanoes southeast of the coast of Vietnam.

The group consists of two submarine cinder cones that formed in 1923 two ephemeral islands during the last eruption. The island was a 30 m high and 450 m long, the other island was only 30 cm high and 30 meters wide. The islands eroded thereafter to below the sea level. A third cone grew to 20 m below the sea surface. More cones occur between Ile des Cendres and the mainland of Vietnam.
