Ileana Salvador

Ileana Salvador ( born January 16, 1962 in Noale ) is a former Italian race walker. The 1.63 m wide and in their competition period 52 kg Salvador won from 1989 to 1993 eight medals at international championships, six of them in the hall walking.

Career

In the Indoor Athletics Championships in 1989 in The Hague, she won over 3000 meters silver behind Beate Anders. At the World Indoor Championships in 1989 in Budapest, she was third behind the Australian Kerry Saxby and Anders; Saxby won with new Hallenweltbestleistung. The following year, Salvador was at the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow again second behind Anders and saw the checkered flag just ahead of her compatriot Anna Rita Sidoti. At the European Athletics Championships in Split went over 10 km Sidoti before Olga Kardopolzewa across the finish line, and Salvador won after 44:38 min the bronze medal.

At the World Indoor Championships in 1991 in Seville Anders won before Saxby. Third was as in 1989, Ileana Salvador, the min in the summer at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo seventh in 44:09.

In 1992, Alina Ivanova gold at the European Indoor Championships in Genoa, and Salvador won silver in front of Anders. A particularly dramatic finale, it was at the Olympics in Barcelona. In the final round in the Olympic Stadium, the two Chinese Yueling Chen and Li Chunxiu led with about 20 meters ahead of Jelena Nikolajewa and Alina Ivanova, who competed for the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). The pursuers overtook however liberally, and in particular Ivanova literally flew closer to the Chinese. At the finish Ivanova was after 44:23 min before Chen in 44:32 min, Nikolajewa min in 44:33, Salvador in 44:40 min and Li in 44:41 min. The Gehrichter had, however, been under the impression that the race to catch some tourers did not meet the rules. Ivanova and Salvador were disqualified due to lack of grip, and Chen was Olympic champion.

At the World Indoor Championships in Toronto in 1993 the last time the hall walking was discharged. It won Nikolajewa before Saxby and Salvador. That same year, Salvador was a great victory so close to the World Championships in Stuttgart as never before. In 43:08 min she was in goal nine seconds behind the Finn Sari Essayah.

Overall, Ileana Salvador won 15 Italian league titles, including nine in the open. In the national team reached 34 inserts.
