Ileana Silai

Ileana Silai ( born October 14, 1941 in Cluj- Napoca ) is a Romanian former middle distance runner.

In 1968 she won the silver medal over 800 meters at the Olympic Games in Mexico City after the US-American Madeline Manning and before the Dutch Mia Gommers. About the same distance she finished fifth at the European Athletics Championships in Athens and each won silver at the Indoor Athletics European Championships in 1971 and 1972.

At the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972 it was over 800 m Sixth, and at the Olympic Games in Montreal in 1976, it reached more than 800 m from the semi-finals and was eliminated more than 1500 m in the run- off.

In 1978 she became European Indoor champion in the 1500 m. In the Balkan Games 1979, she tested positive for anabolic steroids. The resulting ban for this violation of the doping rules has been reduced from 18 to eight months, so that she could start in Moscow at the Olympic Games in 1980. There she was about 1500 m Eighth.
