Ilha de Tinharé

The Ilha de Tinharé is a Brazilian island in the Atlantic. It belongs to the municipality of Cairú in the State of Bahia in Brazil.

Location

Tinharé is located less than a kilometer from the Brazilian mainland in Valença. Immediately south is the Ilha de Boipeba, and west of the Ilha de Cairú. The island extends 23.1 km in north-south direction and reached the north at 14.5 km, its greatest width, the south of the island reaches only a 5 km wide.

Infrastructure

The main port of the island of Morro de São Paulo at the northern tip of the island. The island is accessible by ferry. Morro de São Paulo is several flights daily in a 20-minute flight with Aereo - taxi. With the catamaran it takes about two hours. On the entire island of any kind is not permitted by motor vehicle traffic.

Attractions

  • Expired fortress from the year 1630. 1822 it was a base of the English Lord Cochrane, who supported Brazil in the War of Independence.
