Ilia Klimkin

Ilya Sergeyevich Klimkin (Russian Илья Сергеевич Климкин, scientific transliteration Il'ja Sergeevič Klimkin; born August 15, 1980 in Moscow, Soviet Union ) is a former Russian figure skater, who started in a single run.

Career

Ilya Klimkin began at the age of four years with the figure skating. His grandmother made ​​him, as they said it would be his to health. However, it took ten years to Klimkin to love figure skating learned. His longtime coach was, until his sudden death in 2003, Igor Rusakov. Then Klimkin coached at Viktor Kudrjawtsew. He competed for the club SC Moskvitch.

Klimkin is the first figure skaters in the world, which showed two different quadruple jumps ( Salchow and toe loop ) in a program. That was in 1999 in Oberstdorf at the Nebelhorn Trophy. His pirouettes he turned in both directions. A hallmark of him was called the " cantilever ". 1999 Klimkin was Junior World Champion.

His only medal at a major international championship won Klimkin with bronze at the European Championships in 2004.

In the summer of 2002, Klimkin injured his calf, leading to inflammation and three operations. However, it only managed a little his first and only Grand Prix victory later in the NHK Trophy. He also qualified for the Grand Prix Final, where he earned the silver medal.
