Ilias Tsirimokos

Tsirimokos Iliad (Greek: Ηλίας Τσιριμώκος ) (* 1907 in Lamia, † July 14, 1968 in Athens ) was a Greek politician and former Prime Minister.

Tsirimokos began his political career in 1936 with the election of deputies of the National Assembly ( Vouli ton Ellinon ). After the occupation by the German Wehrmacht, he led his Greek Popular Democratic Party in the National Liberation Front (EAM ), which was under the influence of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE ). On 12 March 1945 he took over as Secretary General of the ELD at the ceremony of Varkiza Convention, by which the various political tendencies of the Greek resistance were combined. After the Second World War he was a member of the Center Union (EK ) by Georgios Papandreou.

After the victory of the center Union in the elections to the National Assembly in 1963, he became President of the National Assembly. After disagreements between Prime Minister Papandreou and King Constantine II led to a government crisis. After Tsirimokos with several other MPs Papandreou failed to support, this had to resign on 15 July 1965 as Prime Minister. After the failure of his successor, Giorgos Athanasiadis - Novas, he was finally from 20 August to 17 September 1965 Prime Minister. However, even he could not merge the various currents of renegade members of the EC and the National Radical Union. Between 1965 and 1966 he also served as foreign minister.
