Ilie Dumitrescu

Ilie Dumitrescu ( born January 6, 1969 in Bucharest ) is a former Romanian football player and current coach. Dumitrescu completed a total of 257 games in Divizia A, the Premier League and La Liga. He participated in the Soccer World Cup 1990 soccer World Cup in 1994 and the Football World Cup 1998.

Playing career

At the age of 8 years Ilie Dumitrescu came to the football school of Steaua Bucharest. He went through all the youth teams before he came into the first team and made ​​his debut on June 13, 1987, were in the highest Romanian football league, the Divizia A. Since Steaua was one of the best teams in Europe at the time, Dumitrescu was borrowed from the 1987/88 season to FC Olt Scorniceşti to play matches. There he was indeed used regularly, but did not play on his favorite position in the storm, but as full-back.

1988 returned back to Dumitrescu Steaua and became a regular player, so he already played with 19 years on the side of the Romanian Hot Starts as Marius Lăcătuş and Gheorghe Hagi. In contrast to other Romanian internationals Dumitrescu joined in 1990, not abroad, but remained faithful to Steaua. Only after the Football World Cup 1994, the interest of foreign giants and Dumitrescu grew moved to Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League.

His involvement abroad was from the beginning ill-fated because Dumitrescu could never build on its achievements and successes in Steaua. In England, he was involved in a scandal and then loaned out to FC Sevilla already in winter. Although Dumitrescu would have liked to stay in Seville, the clubs could not agree on a change, so he had to return to Tottenham in 1995. In winter 1995/96 Dumitrescu moved to local rivals West Ham United, where he wanted to lead manager Harry Redknapp to its former strength. But Dumitrescu got problem with his work permit and the contract was dissolved.

In 1996, Dumitrescu to Mexico and joined the Club América, a year later he moved to Atlante. After he returned to Steaua Bucharest in 1998, he finished at the end of 1998 at the age of 29 years of his career.

National

Dumitrescu played a total of 62 games for the Romanian national football team, scoring 20 goals. His first international game, he completed on 26 April 1989 against Greece. Coaching career

In 2000 received from Oţelul Galaţi the offer to coach the first team in Divizia A. After the season he moved to FC Braşov, but withdrew after a few games in the first Cypriot League to Alki Larnaka on. After a good start the team fell further and further behind and finished the season only in 11th place out of 14 clubs. Dumitrescu returned to Romania and took over the Romanian U21 national team. After the defeat against Norway on 11 October 2002 he resigned and was replaced by the team consisting of Gheorghe Mihali and Florin Tene. From October 2002 to the end of the 2002/03 season he coached the FCM Bacau. In 2003 it moved Dumitrescu again to Cyprus, where he was manager of Apollon Limassol.
