iLife

ILife is a multimedia package from Apple, with focus in the image, audio and video editing, as well as the distribution of these media. It contains the following programs:

  • GarageBand (music software)
  • iMovie ( video editing program )
  • IPhoto ( image management )

Previously included iLife also the programs iDVD ( DVD authoring ) and iWeb ( web development ) that have been set by now, however.

The applications run on Mac OS X and iOS. Older versions of iPhoto, iMovie and iDVD also ran in Mac OS 9

Distribution

A license of the current version of iLife package is already installed when you buy a Macintosh computer, but not part of the actual operating system to do so. She is also on the included disk - in addition to Xcode and the Apple Hardware Test - included as Bundled software. Newer versions of the program are available for purchase, while updates are free. Since January 2009, iLife was also bundled with Mac OS X and iWork at discounted prices.

Since early 2011, the programs are available individually in the Mac App Store. The distribution of DVDs with the entire iLife package was set then. Updates purchased on the Mac App Store iLife applications are available for free.

Integration

A special feature of this software package is the integration of the individual programs. So, among other iTunes records, GarageBand compositions, iPhoto galleries and iMovie videos to iDVD can import to make a DVD of it. Photos from iPhoto can be fit into a cut with iMovie and published with iWeb film, which was set to music from your iTunes library. In addition, photo, music and video libraries can be used in other applications, such as iWork or Microsoft Office have an interface to iLife.
