Ilir Meta

Ilir Meta Rexhep ( born March 24, 1969 in Çorovoda ) is an Albanian politician of the Socialist Movement for Integration ( LSI), whose chairman he has been since the party's founding. Between 1999 and 2002 he was the Prime Minister of Albania. He is so far the youngest, who was elected to that office. Since the September 10, 2013 Ilir Meta is President of the Parliament.

Biography

Ilir Meta studied economic policy in the capital Tirana. 1990/91 he was involved in the student riots that brought about the fall of the communist system. 1992 Meta was chosen as representative of the Socialist Party of Albania in Albanian Parliament. In this party, he took in the following years, holding a number of offices.

On 4 November 1999, Ilir Meta was confirmed by parliament as prime minister. He held this position until 2002. In 2003, he was Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of the country.

In 2004 he broke with the Socialist Party because of disagreements with the block of Fatos Nano. He founded a new socialist party, the Socialist Movement for Integration (Albanian Lëvizja Socialiste për Integrim ) over which he presides, and he has since represented in Parliament. In 2009 he was again Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister in the Cabinet Berisha II In September 2010, he handed over the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Edmond Haxhinasto and became Minister of Economy, Trade and Energy, in order to spend less time abroad need and focus more on the development of the party to be able to.

On 14 January 2011 Meta came also from his post as Deputy Prime Minister and minister for economy, trade and energy back. A year later, on January 16, 2012, the Supreme Court of charges of corruption for lack of evidence acquitted him because the video secretly recorded has been rejected as evidence.

On October 21, 2012 Ilir Meta was confirmed as party leader of the LSI with 79 percent of the vote. His only rival candidate, the Secretary-General Luan Rama, received 21 percent.

In advance of the 2013 parliamentary elections in Albania Ilir Meta and his party left the coalition formed in 2009 with the Democrats to switch over to the Socialists. In the June elections, the Socialists reached under Edi Rama, together with the LSI, a clear majority.

On 10 September 2013, the Kuvendi i Shqipërisë elected with 91 votes to 45 with one abstention Ilir Meta President of the Parliament. Three of the 140 MPs were not present. Thus Meta also received votes from the new opposition, the Democrats, which usually is not in Albania.

Private

Ilir Meta is married to Monika Kryemadhi. The two have three children.
