Ilirska Bistrica

Ilirska Bistrica ( German: Feistritzwerke Illyrian, Italian: Villa del Nevoso ) is a city and a municipality in southwestern Slovenia; in the city itself live 4,869 inhabitants ( 2002). The total municipality has 13,846 inhabitants ( 2012).

The coat of arms of the city Ilirska Bistrica refers to the history of the region, which belonged to the sphere of influence of ancient Illyrian people. The name Ilirska Bistrica, has its origins in the time of the Empire of Austria, where the adjective Illyrisch the old name Bistrica ( German: Feistritzwerke ) was added to distinguish the city from other cities of the same name, for example, Banská Bystrica.

The name Ilirska Bistrica means "The Illyrian Bistrica ", and immediately goes back to the ancient Illyrians not but to the Kingdom of Illyria, an administrative unit of the Empire of Austria between 1816 and 1849.

The Slovenian poet Dragotin chain (January 19, 1876 - April 26, 1899 ) was a son of the city.

Motorsport

Since 1994, a mountain race is on the road No 404 by Šembije discharged, which belongs to the European Hill Climb Championship ( Petrol Ferrari). The route length is 5.010 km at an average gradient of 5.07%.
