Illhaeusern

Illhaeusern is a commune with 676 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region. She is a member of the Association of Municipalities Ribeauvillé.

Geography

Illhaeusern is situated in the Upper Rhine plain in Grand Ried, between the south of Colmar and Schlettstadt in the north, at the mouth of the sword in the Ill. The department road D combines 106 the place with Guémar about three kilometers to the west and Elsenheim almost six kilometers southeast. The municipal area is used for agriculture.

History

The first time the place is mentioned in 1482 as a fishing village. In addition to fishing, the inhabitants of the place operated as well as boatmen to (mainly grain and wine) to transport goods on the river Ill in Strasbourg. 1795, the town was awarded the department of Haut-Rhin, where he joined the Canton Riqewihr belonged until 1802, after the Canton Ribeauvillé. Over the years, also provided other economic activities for livelihood opportunities: the shipbuilding and mining of sand and gravel from the fencing and the Ill, tobacco farming, basketry and animal husbandry.
