Ilon Wikland

Ilon Wikland ( born February 5, 1930 in Tartu, Estonia) is a Swedish- Estonian children's book illustrator. She was best known for her illustrations of the books by Astrid Lindgren.

Life

Ilon (actually: Maire - Ilon ) Wikland is the daughter of the engineer Max Pääbo and the artist Vida Juse. She spent her childhood in Haapsalu and came up with 14 years as a refugee in Sweden. She attended art schools in Stockholm and London, and worked as a graphic designer in publishing.
