Ilona Brand

Ilona Brand ( born April 17, 1958 in Friedrichroda as Ilona Oeckel ) is a former German luger.

Ilona Brand, whose athletic career began on the spit mountain railway of their place of birth, started in their active time for the ASK forward Oberhof. Especially in the years 1979 and 1980 fire could nationally in the GDR as well as achieve significant international success. When Luge World Cup 1978/79 on the Combined ice rink in Koenigssee she finished in third place. Behind Melitta target man, she won both the 1979 silver medal at the East German Championships as well as at the Luge Championships 1979 in Oberhof. Similarly successful was 1980, where fire was first again behind target man GDR runner-up and won at the 1980 European luge behind this and the Italian Marie -Luise Rainer bronze. Height of her career was the participation in the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, where she played the first two runs each as fourth-placed in close proximity to the medals.
