Ilori Church

The Ilori Church (Georgian: ილორის ეკლესია ) is a church building in the Georgian village of Ilori (Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia ). It was built in the 11th century. Are located on the eastern facade of five stones with Georgian inscriptions, which are also dated to the 11th century. In the 17th century the Church of Levan II Dadiani was renovated. In 1736 it was burned by the Turks and then rebuilt by the Prince of Odischi. In the 1840s, the church building has been thoroughly renovated.

On 18 November 2010 reported the Georgian television Rustavi 2 that the historical form of the church was disfigured by Abkhazians and Russians. On the Georgian Church, a Russian dome was placed. The Georgian fresco was painted over with white paint. How Rustavi 2 reported the inscriptions are destroyed.

The Georgian side appealed to international organizations and urged UNESCO to respond to these actions.
